Shortlisted in two categories for the UKSTT Awards!

This is the third set of awards that Catsurveys have been shortlisted for in 2018! We have been announced as finalists in the following categories of the UKSTT Awards:

  • Application of Digital Technology
  • Young Professional

The UKSTT (United Kingdom Society for Trenchless Technology) is a registered charity involved in the development and promotion of Trenchless techniques. Following the success of the awards in 2016, UKSTT announced earlier this year that the 2018 Gala Dinner and Awards ceremony will be held in conjunction with Westrade and No Dig Live, taking place on Wednesday 19th September.

Application of Digital Technology

The criteria for the Application of Digital Technology asked for a narrative of why the type of digital technology we used was chosen, the problem that it was helping to solve and how we have positively impacted the industry with this technology.

We chose to enter with the Desktop Utility Record Searches (DURS) system that we are currently utilising in our works. We created this unique, bespoke and easy-to-use online database-driven Geographical Information System (GIS) for DURS.

The systems developed have enabled us to ensure the timely, efficient and cost-effective collation of statutory undertakers’ drawings. Once an area has been requested all users of the digital system have access to download the information until expiry. A direct by-product of the system and semi-automated process is the decreased project risk and increased safety of all involved with the design, diversion, survey and excavation of buried infrastructure. A DURS pack is the first stage of planning intrusive works.

Young Professional

Joel Baldan, Commercial Lead at Catsurveys was nominated for the Young Professional category. Joel started his career at Catsurveys a little over six years ago, and since then he has grown within the company.

Joining initially as a Technician within the CAD department he was responsible for the drawing up of completed utility surveys and planning of feasible installation routes for various utility types and Distribution Network Operators (DNOs).

“It didn’t take long before I realised I had found an industry and role that I was enthusiastic and passionate about, one that when waking up in the morning did not feel like a chore but instead was something I was eager to explore and where possible, better it.” Explains Joel.

During his time at Catsurveys, Joel has helped develop innovative ideas working together with Catsurveys Research & Development (R&D) team, taking everyday issues faced by survey companies and our clients and innovating solutions that disrupt the industry norm.

Joel’s skills have developed within the industry, and he is now the Commercial Lead at Catsurveys, accountable for securing new business, exploring new opportunities to develop and grow further. Congratulations to Joel on being shortlisted for the awards!
